The End of Windows 10

Update concept on modern laptop computer screen on wooden table. All screen content is designed by me.

It feels like it was just yesterday that we were using the greatest Windows operating system, Windows XP (no, I'm not old). Then we go through a rollercoaster ride of operating systems, with good and bad ones, until we end up with Windows 10.

We were promised that Windows 10 would be the latest and greatest. It was even supposed to be the last operating system Microsoft would release, but obviously, they decided to make more money or just cause us more headaches. Windows 11 was introduced and like all other operating systems, it started off with a crutch and so many issues. It’s been a while now and it’s time to retire Windows 10 and fully support 11.

Windows 10 has served us faithfully for 10 years, but Microsoft has already decided to stop supporting it. They stopped releasing feature updates for it last year but they decided that’s not enough. Now, they’re stopping all security updates for Windows 10.

In a few months, Windows 10 will become obsolete to the point where it becomes a security risk. You don’t want to wait until the last moment to upgrade your operating system. You need to make sure that your computer can support Windows 11. Microsoft insists that Windows 11 must be installed on computers with a TPM chip. If you don’t know what that is, it’s ok, I didn’t either until I researched it. For most of us, we won’t even be aware of its functionality, but it’s doing security things in the back end.

If you’re still using Windows 10, you’ll need to check if your computer is compatible with Windows 11. Windows will happily tell you if your computer is compatible with Windows 11. Just try to run updates and it’ll tell you.

Again, don’t wait till the last minute, like I usually do, try to get this done earlier to avoid the rush and rise of computer prices. It’s time to shop around for deals if you need to replace your computer.

Even if you have a limited budget, make sure to look for a computer that can do what you need. You don’t need to buy a brand new computer, you can buy a 2 year old computer with the right specs for half the price of a new computer. Just make sure you buy it from a reputable company with at least a 3 month warranty.

If you’re not sure, feel free to call your friendly techs at The Computer Guild. We would be happy to tell you if you’re getting a good deal or to stay away from that deal.
